Remembering William James Pearce : 1916
My thanks go to Mark Pearce who has very kindly shared extracts from his great-grandfather’s diary about his time in Salonika and allowed me to put them here. Extracts from 1917, 1918 and 1919 will follow shortly.
Another sale – a souvenir of LZ85
I’ve said before that I don’t want to become an advertising arm of eBay – they get enough out of me as it is – but when interesting items related to the campaign appear, it seems a shame not to share them.
French film about the Salonika Campaign
I hope you have already taken a look at the film about the campaign, commissioned by Away from the Western Front, to add to that here is a French film – by France 24 English – that I have come across on YouTube which gives an outline of the campaign, with much interesting footage, from the French and Serbian perspective (so don’t expect much on the BSF). It’s a pity British broadcasters couldn’t come up with something similar for the centenary!
Intriguing Connaught Rangers medals
My thanks go to Tim Mole for bringing this interesting set of medals to my attention. For just $999.99 they can be yours!

Browsing through back issues of The New Mosquito I came across an article about members of the Highland Mountain Brigade (TF), RGA, celebrating Hogmanay in 1918.
Christmas and New Year Greetings to all our readers!
The SCS Committee wishes all visitors to our website the very best for the Christmas season and 2019. Although the centenary of the First World War is over – but don’t forget that troops were still in Salonika into 1919 – we hope you will continue to find much of interest here and on Facebook. Of course, the Salonika Campaign Society ‘marches on’ and, if you are not already a member, why not join to ensure that those who served in Salonika continue are not forgotten? Finally, for Christmas 2018 there can only be one image to use (my thanks to Martin Wills for providing this lovely crisp version of a familiar postcard):

Faces of the Balkans : Festive Feldartillerie
Here’s a recent addition to my postcard collection which is, conveniently enough, festive. This time we are going over ‘the other side of the wire’ with a German postcard.
