Upcoming events at Sandham Memorial Chapel

Those with an interest in the Salonika Campaign will no doubt be familiar with the life and work of Sir Stanley Spencer, and Sandham Memorial Chapel – and the chapel’s enduring significance as a place of commemoration and remembrance. If so, you may well be interested in two events taking place this summer and in the months ahead.

1. On the evening of August 5th, in Salisbury, Heather Walkling (Operations Assistant, Sandham Memorial Chapel) will present a 45-minute illustrated talk exploring Sir Stanley Spencer’s life and work. The talk, offers the opportunity to “discover the extraordinary story behind one of Britain’s most unique war memorials.” For full details, including ticket purchase, follow this link.
   
2. Beginning in August, and continuing until November, visitors to the chapel can participate in a 15-minute talk by a Chapel Steward exploring a single Stanley painting, offering insight into its style, inspiration, and context. Afterwards, First World War poetry will be read aloud in the Chapel, “bringing further reflection and atmosphere to the setting.” For full details, follow this link.
