An exhibition of work by 2018 Sky Landscape Artist of the Year, Jen Gash, inspired by her journey through the countryside of Macedonia accompanying the 2018 SCS Centenary tour and following in Stanley Spencer’s footsteps.
Wednesday 16 to Sunday 27 October 2019
In 2018 the Imperial War Museum commissioned a new artwork based on the Macedonian landscape, in particular, Kosturino ridge – the first action of the Salonika campaign in December 1915. This commission was offered as a prize to the winner of the Sky Landscape Artist of the Year competition. Winner, Jen Gash, joined the SCS Centenary ‘Victory’ Tour in the autumn of 2018 and her finished painting now hangs in the Imperial War Museum North.
Jen created other pieces of work on the tour and this unique exhibition at Sandham Memorial Chapel provides new ‘eyes’ into the landscape of Macedonia – old and new – as she followed in the footsteps of Stanley Spencer.
Stanley Spencer’s Salonika: Saturday 19 October 2019 at 4.15-5.45pm
Find out more about Jen’s Macedonian journey and hear her talk about the competition and the trip, and compare Stanley’s Salonika with the landscape that Jen experienced and painted.
