“Climb every mountain …”

As it’s UN International Mountain Day I thought I would share with you a photo of some Balkan mountains. Looking through my collection of photos from a trip to the area in spring 2016, these are the most impressive peaks I could find. Although distant, they are satisfyingly snow-capped!

View of the mountains north west of 'Castle Hill' on the Doiran Front.

The photo was taken by Mrs Braysher on 30 March 2016 during a visit to ‘Castle Hill’, a British position on the Doiran Front. This photo is looking away from Doiran over the border – note the Cold War anti-tank defences – into the Republic of North Macedonia (previously FYROM, Yugoslavia and, in 1915-18, Serbia).

As I live in Norfolk this is the only mountain I’ll see today. Happy International Mountain Day!
